The FSSO is going to KKNK!!
This year the FSSO will perform two programmes with Nataniel in Oudtshoorn during the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees. Program 1 Swanemeer, die ware verhaal (Swan lake: the true story) is for children of all ages. It's a story of tradition and change, family feuds, fraud, prejudice and the hillarious relationships between the people of a small town. At the same time, the audience learn how a classical orchestra works - all in an entertaining way.
Program 2: Nataniel: die een konsert. Nataniel will perform some of his own music and new arrangements of famous jazz, soul and pop hits with the FSSO on 5 April. |

Since 2009 the Free State Youth Orchestra is managed by the FSSO. Auditions for the orchestra are held at the beginning of each year, but ad hoc auditions can also be arranged with management during the year. The best young instrumentalists in the province from all backgrounds have the unique opportunity to gain invaluable professional experience by playing in the orchestra. Different guest conductors are invited for each concert. The different instrument-groups are privileged to be trained by members of the Odeion String and other leading experts.
The first concert of 2010 will be on Thursday 25 March.
David Nkosi wil conduct the FS Youth Orchestra in a programme consisting of Beethoven's Symphony No. 2, themes from Fiddler on the Roof and The Fiddlers by the Finnish composer Rautavaara.

British-born Chris Dowdeswell has been established on the South African music scene for over 25 years. He is a regular guest conductor in all major centres and has enjoyed success in the fields of both opera and concerts. Chris Dowdeswell studied in London, Germany and Monte Carlo. His early career took him to Germany and Austria where he held conducting appointments in Augsburg, Dortmund and Darmstadt, and was guest conductor at the Kammeroper in Vienna. |
