Chrisna Smit
Principal clarinet and Manager of the Free State Youth Orchestra
Chrisna Smit was appointed as principal clarinet player of the FSSO in 2011 after she moved back to Bloemfontein to further her studies at the University of the Free State. She was winner of the woodwind category and also overall winner of the Clerm de Boeck competition in 1991. In 1996 she was appointed as first clarinet of the National Chamber Orchestra in Mmabatho where she stayed for a year.
Chrisna Smit matrikuleer in 1991 en neem in dieselfde jaar deel aan die Clem de Boeck kompetisie, waar sy aangewys word as wenner van die houtblaasafdeling asook algehele wenner. Sy studeer BAMus aan die Universiteit van die Vrystaat onder Heinrich Armer. In 1996 kry sy die pos as eerste klarinet van die Nasionale Kamerorkes, in Mmabatho, waar sy vir ‘n jaar lank bly. Vanaf 1998 tot 2009 is sy in Prince Albert werksaam as onderwyser. In 2010 keer sy na Bloemfontein terug waar sy haar studies onder Heinrich Armer voortsit. In Februarie 2011 word sy aangewys as eerste klarinet van die Vrystaatse Simfonieorkes. Tans is sy besig met haar BMus (Hons) asook met voorbereidings om Voordraerslisensiaat deur Unisa, in Augustus te voltooi.
